Research
The Center for Sustainable Forestry has four main research emphases: 1) sustainable forest management, 2) mixed objective silviculture, 3) ecosystem services, and 4) forest ecology. The focused research program is tied to Director Gregory J. Ettl’s students and collaborators. There are also a number of other researchers working at Pack Forest, and a link to publications related to Pack Forest are listed in our bibliography.
Potential researchers may find Dr. Mark Swanson's paper, An Ecological History of the Charles Lathrop Pack Experimental Forest (Pack Forest), located near Eatonville, Washington particularity helpful. This paper addresses the ecological backdrop against which modern management activities have played out, and describes significant natural and anthropogenic changes.
